about

This is a song about a truck. Yes. The lyrics are further down but here's the back story, and its all true.

I know nothing about cars, or trucks for that matter. All I knew was that the old Custom Deluxe pick-up I'd just bought was loud and obnoxious. It had a will of its own. Whenever it idled, the whole thing would wobble and bully me forward. It was anything but subtle. A slight tap of the gas and it would roar. I had gotten it from a race car mechanic who claimed he'd been building it for a year before his wife made him get rid of it. "Breaks my heart." He said. "Yeah sure." I thought. "Breaks my heart to pay you this much." I was annoyed that it wouldnt pass emissions and I called him to complain. He hung up on me. Then one day a bearded guy driving a fancy, jacked up GTO pulled alongside me at a traffic light. It was dusk, summer I think. No one else was around. Just him and me. I remember thinking "That's strange, his nice car sounds kinda like mine.". Before us was a straight-a-way leading over a bridge. He revved up his engine and looked at it, and then over at me and revved it again. My stomach flipped around. I don't know what happened next -the light finally turning green or our engines starting to scream. I dug my gas pedal into the floor, winding out first gear fast and then shifted to second. Again. To third. Again..The G Forces threw me back in my seat and there I stayed for full 8-9 seconds. I was quite litterly floating. Then, there in my rear view I saw the GTO fall behind. Once on the other side of the bridge, I slowed down and waited for the him to catch up. Pulling up again, he tipped his head. From then on I was in love.
